SSI Certification System
he SSI Spatial Information Commission offers spatial information specialisation certification. It is a formal “portfolio-based” process by which individuals who have demonstrated a level of expertise in the spatial information profession are identified to the public and other stakeholders. SSI Spatial Information Commission Certification provides an exacting measure of an individual’s knowledge, skills and integrity in a range of spatial information positions undertaking:
- data analysis, system design, programming, or a similar position;
- data compilation, teaching and research, or a similar position;
- GIS Use (an individual who employs the use of GIS technology but not in the capacities identified above).
The SSI Spatial Information Commission specialist certification where ever possible is equivalent to the Geographic Information Systems Certification Institute’s (GISCI’s) GIS Professional certification (GISP) standard. In the future, it is anticipated that this will eventually afford the spatial information professional certified under this program international recognition and portability of their certification.
Achievement of Spatial Information Commission Certification entitles the use of the post nominal, Geographic Information Systems Professional – Asia Pacific (GISP-AP)
Geographic Information Systems Professional – Asia Pacific (GISP-AP)
To achieve GISP-AP, you will need to have:
- Tertiary qualifications, undertaken continuing professional development, demonstrated long term work experience and have made contributions to the spatial industry;
OR
- Demonstrated long term continuos practice in spatial information work experience in a range of positions. The Long Term Practice Provision is available till 31 Dec, 2008.
